Join this session of the O.U.R. Children’s Safety Project to learn more about The Deaf and Hard of Hearing Child Resilience Center (DHHCRC) at Gallaudet University. The DHHCRC was established to support the mental health of Deaf and Hard of Hearing children and families by increasing resources and reducing barriers to quality care. With funding from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, the DHHCRC was established in 2021 as part of the National Child Traumatic Stress Network (NCTSN). Since that time, the center has been training mental health clinicians, developing bilingual mental health screening measures, and providing quality mental health resources for the community. This workshop will share several of the resources available for families and professionals, including infographics on topics of language deprivation and mental health care with deaf and hard of hearing clients and videos on various mental health topics. It will highlight one project currently underway in collaboration with the NCTSN’s Core Curriculum on Childhood Trauma and will share examples of training material to facilitate learning about childhood traumatic stress and unique considerations for supporting deaf and hard of hearing children. The workshop will close with sharing opportunities for community involvement in our ongoing research projects.

Guest Presenter: Dr. Lori Day
Facilitator: Janet DesGeorges
