Toddler Group at Thayer Lindsley Program
The Thayer Lindsley Family-Centered Program
Toddler Group: Tuesday and Thursday (10am-12pm) – January 19, 2023 – April 27, 2023
The Thayer Lindsley Program, as part of the Robbins Center at Emerson College, offers a family-centered approach to services for young children who are deaf or hard of hearing and their families.
Communication-focused services are provided at this crucial stage in speech and language development. This involves working directly with the children as well as partnering with their families as they engage in the unique challenges of raising a child who is deaf or hard of hearing.
Graduate student clinicians, with the support of a speech-language pathologist and early childhood educator, provide models for parents and assists families in creating optimal language-learning environments at home. Parents are given support and information about their children's specific needs, the goals of intervention, and methods for obtaining additional therapeutic and educational services.
The Toddler Group is a treatment program for children aged 18–36 months, and facilitates the development of their communication skills. Parents observe the sessions through a one-way mirror. This experience teaches parents creative ways to encourage their child’s communication growth and supports them in choosing the best communication approach for their family.
